Excerpts

Fishing

In our journey across the waters of our spiritual lives we tend to take comfort in familiarity, it is tempting to hug the peaceful shores of life as we have known them, along with our comfortable traditions and well-worn habits. But then Jesus calls to us. Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch (Luke 5:4, NIV). A common response of ours is, “We’ve never done it that way before!” yet, when we are stubborn and resisting we miss the thrill of the catch---all the rewards and true adventures of obedience to Christ. We would rather fish for bluegill in a landlocked lake than venture out into the deep for a swordfish. Next time an opportunity comes your way consider what you might be missing is your sense of security in the depth of the water, the distance from land, or the God who pilots you?
