On
the Judean hillside one night, an angel appeared to a group of
ordinary shepherds. Following the angel’s delivery of “good
news,” suddenly the sky lit up as an entire host of angels
surrounded the small band of shepherds. Glory
to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor
rests (Luke
2:14
, NIV). Why did God send a
host of angels? Perhaps because such good news deserves a party. All
of creation had waited for this event since time began---the
miraculous birth of the Son of God. Heaven could not contain the
joy. And you can be sure one fallen angel and his cohorts wanted to
prevent this heavenly mission. Perhaps the heavenly host used their
“angel muscles” to make certain Gods message would be delivered
safely. After all, the entire world depended on it. Message
delivered.
Mission
accomplished. The news
spread. And the rest is history.
