A Safe Place

A violent storm erupted as I sat in the car waiting for my husband’s return. Within minutes a fierce wind began to blow and rain fell in torrents. The car, however, provided a tiny safe haven for me. I knew I was safe even though I could see nothing outside. For God has promised, When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee (Isaiah 43:2). What a powerful reminder of the way God protects us when the storms of life trap and pummel us from all sides. Our circumstances may cancel any hope of escape from pain or tragedy; however, a safe place is provided where God’s presence surrounds us, calms our spirit, and offers the promise of eventual relief. The world cannot offer such a safe place, but we are in the care of a God who can.
