On the way home from golf I was tremendously thirsty, but my usual soft drink choices all sounded unappealing. When I am thirsty nothing will do but water. I am precisely at that point in my spiritual life too. I have tried to quench my thirst looking at religion, but am parched for the presence of God. A soul deeply thirstily for God cannot be quenched by human sources---a man can receive only what is given him from heaven (John 3:27, NIV). I cannot receive the presence of God from more church, more debates, more study. I can only receive it from God. I no longer care to debate theology, worship styles, or whether a Scripture passage supports or weakens my position. I want God---pure, authentic, loving, embracing God---and nothing else will do.
